Planning a wedding on a budget isn't easy. You have to make many careful decisions about what you will have on the biggest day of your life. To save a little on your budget, you can get busy with a group of your closest friends and make a lot of the decorations for the wedding and the reception weeks, or even months in advance.

Find a Storage Space

You don't want to live with the wedding for the next several weeks, so find a storage unit that is close to home where you can store all of the things that you purchase for your big day. If the temperature in your area gets hot, consider renting a storage unit that is climate-controlled. This will protect everything from getting damaged, like the candles melting, until the big day.

Floral Arrangements

Lining the aisle with gorgeous floral arrangements creates a dramatic look as you glide to your groom. You don't have to spend a fortune on the arrangements to be made of fresh flowers. Instead, take some time to go out and search for silk flowers to use. Buying in advance will give you the chance to find clearance and close-out prices on the flowers that you want to use.

As you make the arrangements for the aisle or other areas, make sure to store them in individual boxes. Smaller arrangements can be stored in liquor or wine bottle cases. These cases have dividers built into them and will keep your arrangements in perfect shape as they are transported and stored.

Chair Sashes

Sashes and bows on the chairs at your reception can really dress up the entire space. Renting sashes and bows is one option, but that can get really pricey. Instead, spend a little time on YouTube learning how to make bows and buy some fabric at your local arts and crafts store. A little time with your friends making the sashes and bows will save you a ton of money.

To pack the sashes and bows for storage, get some boxes and some tissue paper. Layer the bows in the box and lay a sheet of tissue paper between each layer. Don't use a box that is too deep or you will crush the bows at the bottom of the box. Make sure to only loosely stack the bows so that you don't press the lower bows flat as you load the box.

These are just two examples of the things you can make ahead of time. Centerpieces and other decorative items can be made months ahead and will stay in great condition until the day of your rehearsal and decorating fun. Start browsing through the clearance and close-out bins to find what you need at a much lower price. Then, have some fun with your closest friends without feeling the crunch of time and store it all in a storage unit until your big day. Contact a company like Foothills Storage for more information.
